Inspired by a poem by J.K. Kennedy, The Journey captures CJ Miller’s realization that he is not only the traveler on the creative path, but also the path itself—and ultimately, the destination. The tondo measures 40" by 40". Through a process of free-flowing mark making, Miller allows forms to surface from his subconscious—shapes that feel like a primitive language rooted in something older than thought. Each mark reveals what is already within, bypassing logic to speak in symbols, emotion, and energy. We see the outside world through our inner lens, and in this work, Miller invites viewers to do the same.

Mounted on a rotating base, the circular painting (tondo) invites the viewer to become an active participant in the unfolding journey. There is no fixed top or bottom. As the tondo turns, new shapes, meanings, and emotional resonances emerge—offering a personal experience that shifts with every angle. Just as the artist’s process reveals his inner landscape, so too does the painting reflect what is already within the viewer. The Destination reminds us that we are not separate from the art, or the path—we are the journey itself.
