Massachusetts Berkshires 2027
I'm excited to announce a new Spiritual Artist Retreat in the breathtaking Berkshire Mountains of western Massachusetts October 4–8, 2027. The event will be hosted at The Thyme, a peaceful mountain retreat nestled beside the Appalachian Trail and surrounded by the breathtaking colors of New England in autumn.

When I first discovered this property, I immediately felt something special. Imagine spending your mornings painting in a quiet mountain setting, taking gentle walks beneath brilliant fall foliage, sharing meaningful conversations with fellow creatives, and giving yourself the space to slow down, listen, and create from a place of presence. It's the perfect environment to explore together as Spiritual Artists.

We're still finalizing a few details, including accommodations and pricing, but I wanted to let you know what's on the horizon. If spending four unforgettable days immersed in creativity, nature, and community speaks to your heart, I hope you'll keep these dates open.
If you'd like more information or would like to be among the first to know when registration opens, please email me. I'd love to hear from you! Email CJ with any questions and to reserve a space.

CJMiller's Align. Listen. Create. Framework

CJ Miller's Creative DNA framework blends mindfulness, movement, and expressive painting into a playful process of self-discovery. Rather than teaching you what to paint, he creates the conditions for your own authentic creative voice to emerge. The result is a retreat filled with curiosity, laughter, meaningful connection, and surprising artistic breakthroughs.
Restorative Nature

Enjoy the art retreat of a lifetime. Discover yourself in a beautiful studio with like-minded conscious creators during the day and spend the evenings surrounded by nature.
Welcome to The Thyme

Tucked away in the rolling Berkshire Mountains between New York and Boston, The Thyme is a peaceful sanctuary bordering the iconic Appalachian Trail—the perfect setting to slow down, reconnect, and create.
Plenty of Workspace

Bring your favorite paints and brushes, and we'll take care of the rest. Each artist receives a spacious worktable, chair, workshop handouts, a copy of The Spiritual Artist, paper towels, and access to a variety of shared brushes, brayers, texture tools, and specialty materials. About two months before the retreat, you'll receive a complete supply list with everything you'll need.
The Wizardry of Crystal Nelson

At the Spiritual Artist Retreat, I’m grateful to be joined by Crystal Nelson, a process-driven mixed media abstract artist whose work is inspired by texture, shape, and color. Based in the DFW area, Her expertise and supportive spirit enrich the retreat experience, helping participants explore new creative approaches while uncovering their own artistic voice.
Expressive Landscape Painting

Autumn has made the Berkshires one of New England's most beloved destinations for artists, photographers, and nature lovers. Surrounded by vibrant fall color, we'll practice listening before painting an expressive landscape. Through observation, presence, and intuitive mark-making, you'll respond not just to what you see, but to what the landscape invites you to feel. Nature becomes a creative partner, revealing fresh possibilities with every brushstroke.
Dueling Expressive Painting

My signature dueling expressive practice invites you to paint while standing, moving freely, and responding to another artist's marks. This playful exchange quiets self-judgment, encourages presence, and reveals the surprising possibilities that emerge through creative collaboration.
Somatic & Kinestic Awareness

Creativity isn't just something we think—it's something we feel. Through movement, gesture, and tactile mark-making, these playful exercises awaken curiosity, deepen presence, and reconnect you with the body's innate creative wisdom.
Learning Our Body's Intelligence

Our bodies often know what our minds have yet to discover. Through playful movement, guided exercises, and creative exploration, you'll experience how the body's natural intelligence can quiet overthinking, awaken intuition, and become a trusted partner in the creative process.
Great Hall Dining

There is something deeply meaningful about sharing a meal together. Our spacious gathering lodge invites conversation, laughter, and a chance to slow down. Between creative sessions, participants connect over delicious meals, share stories, and build friendships that often become one of the most meaningful parts of the retreat.
Farm to Table Dining

A typical day might begin with house-made granola, yogurt, fresh fruit, artisan toast, chia pudding, and jammy eggs. Lunch could feature oven-roasted Hudson Valley steelhead trout, seasonal barley salad, and crisp greens with tahini dressing, while dinner might include ginger-roasted salmon, Asian baked tofu, sesame noodles, charred Thai cabbage slaw, and a light matcha pudding for dessert. Vegetarian, vegan, and dietary accommodations are happily available.
Discover Your Tribe

Refresh yourself with a conscious community. Spend four days sharing conversation, ideas, and creative growth. You'll make new friends for life.
Listening Within

Several days quietly end with time for guided meditation, gentle sound experiences, and group sharing designed to quiet the busy mind and reconnect with the deeper creative intelligence already within us. These simple practices help cultivate the presence from which authentic creativity naturally unfolds.
Morning Circle

Each morning we gather to align, listen, and prepare for the day's creative journey. Through mindfulness, reflection, and simple creative practices, you'll discover that your most authentic expression begins long before the first brushstroke.

"There really are no words to express how much this retreat elevated me. I left more confident and inspired to make art a central part of my life. Before coming, I thought my path was leading me toward grief education. Now I see how art itself can become a powerful healing practice. During the retreat, something deep within me opened. As difficult as it was, I experienced firsthand what CJ teaches—that even heartbreak can shift and transform through the creative process. I left believing not only that I have an artistic voice, but that my grief can become something beautiful."
